Send Darren to Lourdes
The Salford Diocesan Pilgrimage brings together in Lourdes priests and people from all over our diocese. This year's pilgrimage will be the 75th Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes and this year Pilgrims to Lourdes will be invited to reflect on the theme of Penance and Reconciliation. The scripture passage for the Theme of the Year will be: “Be reconciled with God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). This echoes the call made by the Blessed Virgin Mary to Bernadette “Penance! Penance! Penance! during the eighth Apparition on 24th February 1858. You are invited to join the bishop, priests, and people from all over the Diocese on pilgrimage to Lourdes during this special 75th anniversary year.
While in Lourdes, as well as visiting the Grotto, the Baths and taking part in both the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Torchlight Marian Procession, we will celebrate a variety of liturgies. Each day we will celebrate Mass together including a Mass at the Grotto. One of these Masses will include the Anointing of the Sick. There will also be opportunities for quiet time and prayerful reflection, Stations of the Cross and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In order for me to go to Lourdes, and be able to assist the pilgrims (I am going as a yout volunteer) I need to raise over £500 for travel and accomodation for 1 week. As you can probably understand, it is difficult for myself, an A-Level student, to fundraise and continue my studies, so I am asking for donations to help me travel there. I am taking part in a few fundraising events over the next few months, including a sponsored cycle of the distance from Manchester to Lourdes (approximately 967 miles), but I cannot rely on these alone. I hope to raise money for myself, and any money I raise over my £500 target will be donated to the group I am travelling with (Mount Carmel Deanery Youth) in order to held reduce the amount needed to fundraise overall. Please help me in anyway you can. By helping me, you are helping a sick person, some of whom are terminally ill. Without the youth volunteers, those people would not be able to travel to Lourdes and experience the same sort of independence we take for granted. Thank you. Darren |
